We had an API console in Channel One studio in Jamaica, nothing has ever matched the playback sound from it, the guy who owned it, a Chinese Jamaican, used to say to me " its a Godley Sound ". Any recordings done there were and still are instantly recognisable.

I love the API sound! I operated an API/Neve console at Hollywood Sound in the mid ‘80’s-‘90’s and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I’ve been operating ProTools after that and looking to keep those great API Mic pre’s on the way in to ProTools rig.

The console does look great, I think the end of the day it doesn't matter what console you use if the mixes sound good to people that's the important thing. But for me it would definately be Neve 5088.

It's such a treat listening to a great audio track.

If there is one thorn on API's side it's this.....Aside from the artists mentioned in the video, people would like to know more about which albums and artists made use of their classic consoles. API has a great reputation for drum recordings. Rock n Roll albums. But People would like to know more about the classic vocal recordings done on an API consoles. If you do a google search on API for vocals you won't get much information. Goo Goo Dolls. Apetite for Destruction. Mostly Rock material. There is information on the LA console sound. But there is little about which artists used the API consoles for classic vocal recordings. Perhaps an information campaign on that subject would be great for API.
